Smart visitors

It’s been a while since I looked at the stats for my websites. I know I don’t get a lot of visitors, but it’s interesting to see how the ones who do come around get here and other fun stats. Well, I noticed something interesting about the browser stats for this site …

There are some smart people who come around here … G-grin

Google calendar

I started using the Google calendar a while ago. I like it. I’ve got a few calendars set up … my main one, one for bills, and the Avalanche schedule.

I said I like it. Well, I do when I can actually get it to load. For some reason it’s not loading up this morning. I have no idea why. But it’s starting to piss me off. I know I shouldn’t complain. It IS a free service. But still. With it being down, that means that the schedule on the Avalanche site is down too. Maybe I should have stuck with how I was doing the schedule before. But I like having it on the Google calendar. Easier maintenance. And with doing it that way, Brad can modify the schedule too (if he ever sets up a Google calendar that is).

Oh well … guess I’ll just have to check it later to update what I have to.

Feed me

Christine asked me to add full RSS feeds for my blog. I wasn’t aware I wasn’t. I had exerpts and comments feeds. And I didn’t think anyone really paid attention to it. After all … I’m not all that interesting … zzz

I told Christine that I’d look into getting a full feed done up. Little did I know that all I had to do was change a single option in my WP admin and there were the full feeds. At least I think it is. It looks like it when I look at it, but I don’t have a feed reader. (I know … I’m probably the last one who doesn’t.)

So … here’s the link to the full RSS feed. If it doesn’t look right, let me know. Also … if the fact that I use relative links instead of absolute links (for references to other posts and for images I post) messes up the feed, let me know.

How did that happen?

I was checking on the referrers to my blog tonite, and decided to play around with Google. I was curious to see if I could get my websites to come up in the first few pages of searches. 2 results suprised me …

search 1: dale earnhardt jr fan site

search 2: chance 2 fan page

My site came up 2nd for search 1 and 1st for search 2 (at least they did tonite when I checked). How cool is that? I have no idea how my sites are there. Maybe I get more traffic on my sites than I think I do. Maybe putting Google AdWords on those sites might bring in a little bit of extra cash.

On the wagon

I finally have a Gmail account. And I didn’t have to beg, borrow, or steal to get one. All I had to do was go to work. One of the guys has an account and had some invites to give out. He asked if I wanted one, and I thought, “sure … why not?” Everyone else and their dog seems to have one … I might as well get one. And next I’ll be jumping off a cliff … LOL.

I didn’t get the username I wanted. The minimum is 6 characters, and wxgal is only 5 … darn. So I went with wxgalbecky. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a good username? I might use one of my invites and make another account if I can figure out a good username. But it has to be a GOOD one before I’ll make another account.

I appear to have 6 invites right off the bat. So … if you don’t have a Gmail account (is anybody left who doesn’t have one or was I the last one to jump on the bandwagon?) and would like one, let me know. Post in the comments (you don’t have to leave your email in the body of the comment for spambots to get … I’ll get it from the email form field). All I require is that you’ve posted here before or I know of you somehow online (via your blog or a message board or whatever). I’m not gonna be giving any to random people who happen to find my blog from a Google search.

Internet boredom

I haven’t been on the net all that much today, and it sucks. My favorite message board has been down most of the day. I’m starting to go through withdrawls. I’ve ran into some of the people from there at another message board. But it’s not the same. I miss Harold and the rest of the crew. cry

At least the race was on tonite, so I wasn’t online except during cautions. And then I was checking all the Dale Jr message boards. [By the way … Dale Jr won!! party ]

I hope things get straightened out over at Harold’s soon. I think the trouble was all those googlebots eating up his bandwidth. That sucks. Thank goodness I don’t have that problem at my message boards. But then again, I don’t have many people visiting them anyways. cry … nobody loves me … cry … LOL.

I think I’ll go check the Dale Jr and other racing message boards to see what’s being said about tonite’s race. Then I’ll probably head to bed. I hope Harold’s back up soon. I said that already didn’t I? LOL Well … I miss the place.

Ah … the memories

When I first entered the blogging world, it was via LiveJournal. I had deleted that journal when I got my domain and started using MT.

I’ve still got some online friends who use LiveJournal. I’ve posted comments a few times, but since I had deleted my LJ journal, I could only post anonomously. I was still able to log in with my username and password, but since I had deleted my journal, I couldn’t post as logged in.

Well, I had been wondering if I could start up my journal there again. I finally tried earlier this afternoon. I found the spot where I could ‘activate’ my journal again. And lo and behold, my old entries were still there. Cool … cool I know know that I joined the blogging world on June 5, 2002. I couldn’t remember exactly when I had started. Having my LJ back, now I know. And I had a record of my trip to Kansas the summer of 2002 again. I read through all of my old entries. One thing I discovered … I was unhappy at my old job for a LONG time. I was bitching about it back in 2002. And I stayed there for over another year. Wow! But it was fun to read some of that stuff again.

If anyone is curious to read my LJ (beware of the bitching … LOL), you can find it here.

Testing Meme Propagation In Blogspace: Add Your Blog!

This posting is a community experiment that tests how a meme, represented by this blog posting, spreads across blogspace, physical space and time. It will help to show how ideas travel across blogs in space and time and how blogs are connected. It may also help to show which blogs (and aggregation sites) are most influential in the propagation of memes. The dataset from this experiment will be public, and can be located via Google (or Technorati) by doing a search for the GUID for this meme (below).

Please join the test by adding your blog (see instructions, below) and inviting your friends to participate — the more the better. The data from this test will be public and open; others may use it to visualize and study the connectedness of blogspace and the propagation of memes across blogs.

The GUID for this experiment is:

as098398298250swg9e98929872525389t9987898tq98wteqtgaq62010920352598gawst

The above GUID enables anyone to easily search Google or other search engines for all blogs that participate in this experiment, once they have indexed the sites that participate, which may take several days or weeks. To locate the full data set, just search for any sites that contain this GUID.

Anyone is free to analyze the data of this experiment. Please publicize your analysis of the data, and/or any comments by adding comments onto the original post (see URL above). (Note: it would be interesting to see a geographic map or a temporal animation, as well as a social network map of the propagation of this meme.)

INSTRUCTIONS

To add your blog to this experiment, copy this entire posting to your blog, and then answer the questions below, substituting your own information, below, where appropriate. Other than answering the questions below, please do not alter the information, layout or format of this post in order to preserve the integrity of the data in this experiment (this will make it easier for searchers and automated bots to find and analyze the results later).

Too tired to surf

It’s sad but true. I’ve been too tired lately to site on the computer at nite. Partly because I need to go to bed earlier at nite. I figure I’m only getting around 6 hrs a nite or so. Not enough for me. And then sitting and staring at a computer for 8 hours doesn’t help any. I just don’t feel like sitting here at nite.

Don’t get me wrong, I do check my usual haunts. But other than that, I haven’t really been doing much online. Hell, I haven’t been doing much other than sitting on my ass on the couch … LOL. I FINALLY cleaned up my computer desk and kitchen table. They were both disaster areas. I can actually see the bottom of both now. It’ll probably stay that way for the next couple of days and then get buried again. But then again, if I’m not working on the computer much, then there won’t be anything to cover the desk with.

I do know that I need to put up the Avalanche pics from 2 weeks ago (damn … I’d better get on the ball). I’ll have to do that either tonite or tomorrow nite. I’ve got some other changes to make on the site too. Too bad I couldn’t work on it at work … LOL.

But I need to go find some food. My stomach is trying to eat itself. Not good … LOL.
